Dee Dee Ramone: “The first time I saw Iggy was at the Stooges’ show at the Electric Circus on St. Marks Place in June of 1971. They went on real late because Iggy couldn’t find any veins to shoot dope into anymore because his arms were so fucked-up. He was pissed off and wouldn’t come out of the bathroom, so we had to wait.

The band finally came out and Iggy seemed very upset. He was all painted in silver paint and all he had on was a pair of underwear. The silver paint was smeared all over him, even in his hair. But his hair and fingernails were gold. And someone had also sparkled him up with glitter. They went on and played the same song over and over. It only had three chords. And the only words to it were “I want your name, I want your number.” Then Iggy just looked at everybody and said, “You people make me sick!” Then he threw up.”
